5 foods you should never reheat in the microwave

The microwave arrived a few years ago to make our lives easier, but is it good to use the microwave to heat or cook all kinds of food? Many doubts exist on this subject and research has shown that certain foods should never be heated in the microwave.

Experts from by Food Standards Agency and The European Food Information Council (EUFIC) carried out a study in which they analyzed the effects that this type of device can have on the composition of certain foods. It has been found that in some cases the structure of food subjected to heat is modified in such a way that it generates possible repercussions on the digestibility of the food, modifies its nutritional values but also releases substances dangerous for the health.

SPINACH, CHARD, BEETS, FENNEL, CELERY…

Depending on where they are grown, spinach and other leafy vegetables can contain high levels of nitrates, substances that are harmless on their own. However, the problem is that with the use of microwaves it is possible for these substances to mutate into nitrosamines, some of which are carcinogenic.

POTATOES

Once the potatoes are cooked, if they are cooled to room temperature and then stored in an unrefrigerated place, the proper conditions can be created for the cultivation of Clostridium botulinum. The heat of the microwave is not enough to eliminate the risks that this microorganism brings to our health.

RICE

In the case of rice, there are two significant issues when microwaved. The first is that heating it with this device causes it to lose virtually all of its nutrients, rendering it useless. In addition, this food sometimes contains bacteria which multiply when they spend time at room temperature and even more if they are heated in the microwave. This can cause digestive-type food poisoning symptoms.
