Cabbage, broccoli: super foods against Alzheimer’s

Broccoli, this cabbage of Italian origin has not finished revealing all its powers. Italian research has revealed the unknown power of broccoli to protect human cells from stress and Alzheimer’s disease. Indeed, broccoli has already been the subject of numerous scientific studies in the past. It is known that this vegetable has a strong antioxidant power, indicated in particular in the prevention of cancer.

This Italian study provides new information on the importance of broccoli in medicine and nutrition. Dr. Paolo Costantino, graduate in molecular biology at the Sapienza University of Rome, who carried out this work.

Broccoli, and especially broccoli sprouts, are rich in antioxidants that have surprising effects on human health. This Italian discovery was made by administering broccoli sprout extracts in cell samples and in animal models capable of simulating human disease.

Extraordinary results against Alzheimer’s

According to the Italian researcher: “These results were extraordinary, we were able to verify an important protective effect of broccoli on oxidative stress and a property against Alzheimer’s.” The active ingredients responsible for these beneficial effects have not yet been identified with certainty.

Practical nutrition advice

It is recommended to eat 3 to 5 servings of broccoli per week for a favorable effect on health. However, be careful not to overcook it, to prevent it from losing certain antioxidant effects.
