Erectile dysfunction: The more porn you watch, the more trouble you have during sex

A survey reveals that more than 50% of people who suffer from erectile dysfunction during sexual intercourse are heavy consumers of pornography.

There can be a reasoned use of films for adults. For example, watching sex movies can sometimes be helpful: It can help people who are anxious about their sexuality overcome their apprehensions. Also, if viewed as a couple, under mutually agreeable conditions, it can enhance the couple’s intimacy. However, according to a new study presented on July 16, 2020 at the virtual congress of the European Urological Association (UAE), watching too much pornography can lead to erection problems. Erectile Dysfunction (ED): Occurs when men have trouble getting and keeping an erection.

The more porn is watched, the higher the percentage of erectile dysfunction

The study is the result of a survey of 3,267 men who answered 118 questions about their sexual habits. Such as masturbation, how often they watch porn, and sexual activity with their partners. The research team found that, on average, all participants watched porn for about 69 minutes per week.

When they compared this amount of pornography watched with experiences of EDs, they found that among people under 35 who watched 300 minutes a week, 30% had EDs, compared to 10% of those who watched less than 300 minutes a week. 30 minutes. In the group of 35 to 45 year olds who watch 300 minutes of pornography per week, 40% have erectile difficulties. However, in general, only 5% of participants watch 300 minutes or more.

Surprising results on young men and EDs

The researchers found a negative trend line between the time they watched porn and erectile function when in a relationship. Sixty-five percent found sex with a partner more exciting than watching pornography. But 23% of them experience erectile difficulties during intercourse.

Porn addiction linked to increased erectile dysfunction

The team also checked the association between erectile dysfunction and porn addiction. She found a much stronger bond. Addiction experts disagree on whether pornography qualifies as a true addiction. But most agree that excessive consumption has negative consequences.

The research team defined pornography addiction among its participants using a validated specific Internet pornography addiction score. This score which consists of eleven questions. In the under-35 group with a high porn addiction score, 45% had ED. In the under-24 age group, about 12 percent already had a high porn addiction score.

More men report dissatisfaction with sex with their partner when they watch a lot of porn

More than 50% of people who suffer from erectile dysfunction during sex with a partner do not, however, when they watch porn. The quality of sex life with their partner was lower if they watched more than 300 minutes per week.

Erectile Dysfunction Problems Not Caused By Health Problems But Decreased Arousal

Porn-induced ED is not caused by low libido or an organic problem in the blood vessels or nerves of the penis. Twenty percent of young people under 35 say they need to watch more and more porn, or more extreme porn to get the same level of arousal to get an erection. And those who think they have to watch more to have the same level of arousal in order to get an erection have a higher addiction score.
