Scientists have shown that 32% of the population has pre-diabetes and 12-14% of Americans have diabetes, largely type 2 diabetes. So altogether more than 50% of Americans have either diabetes or pre-diabetes. North American dietary and behavioral patterns have a great influence on those of Europe. If the figures in France are lower, it remains to prevent them from joining those of the US in terms of the diabetes epidemic.

How to prevent pre-diabetes from becoming diabetes?

Even though there are medications to manage type 2 diabetes, it is always best to avoid suffering from this potentially serious metabolic disease by doing everything to prevent a pre-diabetic patient from becoming diabetic.

There are pre-diabetes prevention methods that work very well. The most effective are regular exercise (150 minutes per week) and weight loss. Previous research has shown that even modest weight loss, eg. 5 to 7% of body weight (4 kg in an individual weighing 80 kg) and regular physical exercise delayed the onset of type 2 diabetes in approximately 58% of pre-diabetics.

Control your blood sugar, especially if you are overweight
