Know the virtues of clove essential oil

The clove tree, from its scientific name Eugenia caryophyllus, is an exotic tall tree that provides cloves. It mainly grows in Madagascar, Indonesia and Zanzibar. Biochemical composition

Clove essential oil consists of 70-85% eugenol. A non-negligible quantity of eugenyl acetate and beta-caryophyllene is also detected.

Indications in aromatherapy

Clove essential oil is mainly used to maintaining good oral hygiene. It is effective both in preventive treatment and in curative treatment. It offers, among other things, anesthetic and anti-infectious properties. As a result, it can treat mouth infections such as mouth ulcers, abscesses or inflammation of the oral mucosa. It also reduces dental pain and is effective against cavities.

In addition, it stimulates immune defenses. In addition to its anti-infectious property, it also develops antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory activities. It is particularly effective in treatment of digestive infections, intestinal, uro-genital and ENT. Its indications are diarrhea, intestinal fermentation, cystitis, prostatitis, amoebiasis, bronchitis, fever and malaria.

Its other indications are:

  • Dermatological conditions: shingles, herpes, scabies, wart, mycosis, insect bites and acne
  • Sexual asthenia: frigidity, impotence and decreased libido
  • Gynecological disorders: difficult childbirth and painful periods
  • Physical asthenia: low energy, convalescence, exhaustion, joint and muscle pain

Recommendations for use and dosage

Dermal :

In cutaneous application, it is preferable to dilute the essential oil of clove in vegetable oil. Then mix 2 drops of essential oil and 15 drops of vegetable oil and apply it all to the areas concerned.

For get rid of warts and relieve insect bites, it is advisable to use the essential oil in its pure form. To do this, it is enough to apply a drop on the warts and bites with the help of a cotton swab.

It should be added that dilution in a bath preparation is not recommended. Nevertheless, for theoral hygieneit is possible to add a few drops of essential oil in a mouthwash solution.

Oral route:

This route of administration is only done under the supervision of an aromatherapy specialist.

Atmospheric diffusion:

Possible use in synergy with softer essential oils.

Inhalation or olfaction:

Unsuitable route of administration.

Precautions for use

I’use of clove essential oil is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under 6 years old. In addition, any therapeutic use must be the subject of prior consultation with a health professional.

Finally, the association with anticoagulant drugs should be avoided.
