Mindfulness meditation: lose weight through meditation

Today, mindfulness is everywhere and applies to all aspects of our lives: walking, cooking, gardening, working, cleaning… According to this new study, mindfulness also has a positive influence on our weight.

Meditation and mindfulness would have a positive effect for humans, at least that is the message broadcast about them. In recent months, these disciplines have been the subject of numerous studies, aimed at determining whether their positive influence on health is scientifically founded.

Mindfulness meditation: losing weight and improving eating habits

This systematic analysis focused on 18 publications bringing together a total of 1,160 participants. This was an in-depth analysis to determine the effect of mindfulness-based interventions to treat overweight and obesity. The aim was to clarify the ambivalent results of previous studies on this subject.

The study confirmed a moderate weight loss of 3.0 to 3.4 kg after treatment for people who suffered from obesity or were overweight. In addition, it appears that meditation and mindfulness have a strong effect on eating habits linked to obesity.

This study therefore confirms that being fully aware of our feelings, thoughts and actions can have a positive influence on our weight. Also, perhaps meditation can help stabilize our weight and ensure long-term weight loss. This therefore avoids the yoyo effect. However, further studies are needed to confirm this last point.

Meditate to regain internal balance

The strength behind meditation and mindfulness lies in the elimination of certain disturbing elements. If we are aware of our feelings and our thoughts, we can accept them and/or release them. This awareness, combined with an increased awareness of the present moment, is elementary to restore our internal balance.
