Hence the interest of this study from the National Cancer Institute in Maryland, which examines the relationships between total mortality and mortality from specific causes in a large sample of more than 500,000 people with an average follow-up of 9 years. .

The best sources of fiber: fiber from cereals

The results show that fiber consumption is significantly associated with a reduction in total mortality: compared to the lowest group for fiber consumption, those in the highest group benefit from a reduction in mortality risk of 22%. , in both women and men. Fiber is also associated with reduced mortality from cardiovascular, infectious and respiratory diseases. A more detailed analysis shows that it is the fibers coming from whole cereals and not those from other sources, which are significantly associated with all-cause and specific-cause mortality.
