For nearly a quarter of French people, the arrival of fine weather is mainly associated with allergies. And very often, despite the various treatments put in place (antihistamines, corticosteroids, desensitization), they persist and/or worsen year after year. Nutritional measures and some naturopathic and homeopathic advice can however help to soothe the allergic terrain…
Allergy, a defensive reaction to modulate
Allergies have been classified by the WHO as one of the great scourges of our time: if it is true that they have always existed, they have nevertheless more than doubled in a few decades. In question of course, the tobacco, the pollution which weakens the respiratory tracts and creates complexes pollen/fine particles which penetrate much further in the bronchi than the pollens only, but especially the weakening of the ground which becomes more sensitive to allergens. Allergy is a hyper-reactivity of the immune system which reacts disproportionately to a foreign substance considered as a danger when it normally does not present a risk: pollen, dust, dust mites, etc.
Allergy: act rather than avoid
If the allergy concerns a single product or food, it is always possible to banish the allergen from his life. On the other hand, if you suffer from seasonal allergies it is difficult to really avoid pollens: even avoiding walks in “at risk” places (practically from February to September if you suffer from various allergies). They are also present in urban and rural areas, and above all they settle and insinuate themselves everywhere: hair, clothes, housing… And since pollen allergy leads to many cross-food allergies (often fruits or vegetables), avoidance is not really a solution in itself. It is better to try to modulate the reactivity of the organism. Moreover, we know that promoting contact with as many allergens as possible from an early age protects against allergies in adulthood, just like breastfeeding, which has the immense advantage of establishing unparalleled intestinal immunity. … a major asset for avoiding allergies.
Sometimes unsuspected causes
Most of the natural defense strategy is worked out in the gut. But many substances can disrupt the immune defenses at the intestinal level: first the many additives and pesticides present in conventional food which will make them gradually more and more reactive, an imbalance of intestinal bacteria which attacks the mucous membrane, electromagnetic waves which alter the permeability of the intestinal barrier, antibiotic therapies repeated too frequently, stress… But the impact of the digestive system on the allergy begins much higher up, at the level of the stomach: if the bolus of food is a not very laborious to digest, the neurovegetative nervous system manages the problem by further stimulating the digestive system to obtain an increase in the production of digestive enzymes; but the nervous branch used is the vagus. As its name suggests, it innervates the digestive and respiratory system. Its stimulation in the respiratory tract will increase the sensitivity of the bronchial mucous membranes to all allergens, but also all pollutants. If the seasonal allergy appears in the spring, it can be prepared all year round… Appropriate nutritional measures are the basis of any allergic treatment.
Change your plate to chase away allergies
Possibly a balance sheet of food intolerances can be advised by a therapist to know the foods that particularly react the intestinal mucosa. Then, try to put as many organic products as possible on your plate: richer in vitamins and minerals, they avoid a daily intake of pesticides and additives. Always favor the least processed products possible, even if they are organic. The eviction of dairy products (milk-cheese-yogurts) at least one month before the allergic period and of course all the time that the latter lasts is a safe basis. In the vast majority of cases, this removal alone improves significantly and almost immediately. Overall reduction throughout the year is inevitable if lasting improvement in allergies is to be achieved. In the case of old allergies, it is sometimes also necessary to avoid or at least limit gluten. But many other unsuspected eating habits can influence the digestive system and allergies: raw fruit or fruit juice taken with main meals, honey toast for dessert, nibbling on all these little sweets between meals, muesli with morning fruits, tomato sauce… these elements with very reduced and very laborious digestibility are, as you now know, indirectly involved in the allergic reaction! On the other hand, a regular addition of omega 3, natural anti-inflammatories, in vegetable form (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds) will always be beneficial. Diet should be studied closely with a naturopath/nutritionist. Ideally you should start about 2 months before the onset of allergies, but the change in diet can have a very rapid and significant effect.
Modulate the terrain with natural solutions:
Here again it is preferable to act in prevention, but there are always some tools at hand to ease this difficult passage…
Homeopathy is a safe bet in the basic treatment of allergies, as are trace elements. The allergic diathesis studied by Dr. Menetrier is a constitutional predisposition to a set of allergic-type manifestations: eczema, urticaria, respiratory allergies, asthma. It is also associated with sudden inflammatory reactions. It is generally regulated by manganese and sulfur. In the event of a declared allergy, taking manganese alone must be done with the advice of a therapist: otherwise a temporary aggravation may appear. The lithotherapy use of manganese through ampoules of Pyrolusite D8, an infinitesimally diluted manganese ore does not have these disadvantages: like all lithotherapy remedies, it dechelates this trace element and makes it available to the body. It is indicated for chronic fatigue, especially in the morning, and allergic conditions. Sulfur is also regularly used to correct allergic areas.
In prevention, it is necessary to envisage a drainage of the liver, but in the “emergency”, one chooses rather a plant for the liver not draining but equipped with natural anti allergic properties: the desmodium, in cure of 3 weeks.
If spring is the season for pollens, it is also the season for buds: three of them are particularly interesting for supporting allergic areas:
– the blackcurrant bud, natural anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory,
– rosehip bud, excellent immuno regulator
– the charming bud, specialist in ENT pathways
A daily intake of vitamin C in its natural form (acerola, camu camu, etc.) is also weight support, with a direct antihistamine action.
Aromatherapy also has some tools to soothe an allergic reaction: essential oils of tarragon (anti allergic) and noble chamomile (anti inflammatory) can be used externally at the rate of 2 drops of each diluted in a tablespoon of ‘vegetable oil. To be used in massage on the soles of the feet, to stimulate all the points of reflexotherapy… This mixture can also be breathed on a handkerchief in the event of crisis and one can deposit a light trace on the wings of the nose.
For skin allergies, black cumin oil in external massage can reduce atopic dermatitis and eczema.
The recovery of an allergic ground certainly requires a food reform and an adapted supplementation, but far from the only symptomatic treatment, it opens real tracks to simply….breathe!
