Mountain savory is an aromatic plant from the Mediterranean region. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family. Its scientific name is Satureja montana ssp montana carvacrolifera. Widely used in cooking, it contains many active components at the origin of its healing properties. It contains essential oil, flavonoids, phenols and terpene derivatives.

Methods of administration and dosage

Essential oil:

It is possible to administer themountain savory essential oil through the skin. Nevertheless, with each use, it must always be diluted in vegetable oil. The recommended dilution dose is 1 drop of essential oil for 3 drops of vegetable oil.

The mixture obtained must then be applied to the areas to be treated. In case of diarrhoea, for example, it is enough to massage the abdomen part. For the case of sexual asthenia, rub the spine and lower back with this oily preparation.

For oral administration, it helps to treat digestive disorders. However, this mode of administration must always be the subject of a medical prescription.

Mother tincture:

Dilute 15 drops of tincture in water. Take it morning and evening after meals to aid digestion. For an optimal result, the cure must be done in 25 days.

Precautions for use and contraindications

Although a natural ingredient, mountain savory should still be used with caution.

Never use essential oil in its pure form. Dilution makes it possible to avoid the risk of serious skin irritation.

Moreover, ingested in high doses, it becomes toxic to the liver. For this purpose, people with liver disorders should not use themountain savory essential oil. This is also the case for pregnant and breastfeeding women and for children under 15 years of age.
