This IQ test in three questions will reveal your level of intelligence

How intelligent do you think you are? To find out, all you have to do is answer these three seemingly simple questions, but which will give you a hard time.

The first modern intelligence test in the history of IQ was developed in 1904, by Alfred Binet (1857-1911) and Theodore Simon (1872-1961). The French Ministry of Education at the time commissioned these two psychologists to develop a test to differentiate children with intellectual deficiencies from children who were purely lazy. The Simon-Binet IQ test was born. This test consists of several components such as logical reasoning, rhyme identification and object naming.

The result of the IQ test of a given child, compared to the corresponding age group, provides information on his intellectual development: is the child ahead or behind compared to the others? The IQ was calculated according to the formula: (mental age/real age) X 100. This test was a resounding success in Europe and the United States. Many are the detractors of intelligence tests, more when they allow to calculate the IQ.

To understand the usefulness of these tests and what they mean, it is important to know the historical context in which they were created.

These tests do not measure intelligence since we do not really know how to define it, but refer to a conception of intelligence, which is not the same thing. Today, we prefer to say that these tests measure cognitive skills.

The usefulness of these tests is very real. They make it possible, for example, to predict academic success (adaptation), to better understand what may be the origin of learning difficulties or even to estimate a deterioration in intellectual performance in the elderly. These tests are obviously not suitable for all contexts.

The concept of IQ is a statistical index which makes it possible to situate the performance of an individual in relation to a reference population. It is therefore of no interest if it is not accompanied by an interpretation and an explanation.

Generally, attention is not focused primarily on this statistical index but on the different results in the different tests which constitute a starting point for a more careful analysis.
